We used WeVideo on the Chromebooks to edit the videos, add captions, transitions and special effects, like music and backgrounds. Students stayed focused on their claim, audience, and purpose. They reflected weekly on their journey as filmmakers by drawing and writing in their Production Journals. Representatives from each homeroom will be showing their documentaries at Peck's Garden Gala, Wednesday, June 10 from 5-7pm.
This quarter, students created short documentary films on their debate topics. They started out by researching and collecting facts/images. Following a week of planning out their movies using a Storyboard, students drafted their scripts, interviewed teachers and parents, and acted out rehearsed scenes.

These are great! Very inventive, lively, spontaneous, and fun. Cool rhythms too. Where did they get their soundtracks?

CONGRATS ON THIS WONDERFUL PROJECT! I'm proud of the entire class for taking on tough issues and creating great points for both sides. I think it's important to have views on both sides so that a clear and concise opinion can be formulated. The two that stuck out to me, were the rap and graffiti. I think the pros and cons were detailed and explicit. My question and comment to the students is: " Why does rap get such bad criticism when we have such talented rappers: J.Cole. Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Logic, Nas Lupe , and such on. These rappers create an environment that promotes creativity and art. It's certain rappers that give bad name to rap but I honestly do not think this should jade the way rap is viewed to society. Just like in anything in life there's pros and cons to everything. I think we need to promote our "conscious" rappers more than Flick of da Wrist, Migos, and other non- sense that makes rap easy. It takes the future ( you all) to endorse these rappers and put them on the forefront. As for the graffiti, I love the arts and the power that it can bring as far as the messages. I don't endorse the gang graffiti but for the artists who use the city as their canvas I have no problem. It's an tremendous outlet, as I have seen first hand many of the kids I've worked with gravitate to graffiti and have created countless of amazing murals and designs. I think the outlet and giving opportunities to this art form needs to be expanded and there should be an arena for this to happen. what do you guys think? What would be a safe place or programs that can help endorse this art and turn the negative connotations into something positive? Again, you guys are amazing and have an amazing teacher and it's important to continue to challenge the norms and seek enlightenment for yourself on these issues. I wish I did this stuff in 5th grade lol keep up the great job.

I liked how you showed good pictures of graffiti. What made you do this video? You can show a video of a person doing a nice graffiti.

I liked the music because it matched with the topic. Does graffiti hurt you so much that it can make you go to the hospital?
